The Plano chapter of National Honor Society recently undertook a project of supporting City House; a temporary shelter in Plano for abused, neglected and homeless teens.
They set a most AMBITIOUS GOAL of raising $500 in cash, gift cards and products. The leaders of NHS presented the idea to the student body and solicited their participation by donating cash, gift cards and products in addition to purchasing cookies, ice cream and cupcakes – all donated by National Honor Society members.
To their amazement, the students and families of Willow Bend Academy contributed in excess of $1,200 – more than twice the “ambitious goal”!
City House was established in 1998 when two Plano school teachers noticed some of their students were living out of their lockers. This led to the establishment of a 6-bed homeless shelter which has grown to the present 48-bed shelter for abused and neglected children as well as for those who are homeless.
