On-Campus Study (Grades 4-12)
On-campus study at Willow Bend Academy differs from on-campus study at most other schools in a number of ways. First, each student works at his or her own pace at an individual workstation rather than sitting in a “lecture-style” classroom. This helps to reduce the level of distraction from other things going on in the room. Then, where most classrooms have a student to teacher ratio of 22-25:1, we maintain our ratio at 8:1. On a given day, most students will spend at least 20 – 25 minutes in face-to-face dialog with their teacher. This allows our teachers to be much more aware of the needs and progress of each student, and to be more available for questions and assistance. Finally, students attend on-campus for four hours each weekday rather than the traditional six or seven. This works because we concentrate on academics and not things like band, athletics, and other elective courses. (Though with a shorter day, students who wish to pursue those activities are able to do so with our affiliate programs or other approved non-school programs. Some students even begin careers during this time.)
