Giving back to the community is an important part of good citizenship. The Willow Bend Academy chapter of National Honor Society asked the student body to participate in a project of cleaning one a Plano city park and had an excellent response. Twenty-three students and faculty members participated in the project. They removed trash ranging from plastic bags and bottles to a rusty folding chair and a “no dogs allowed” sign post.
The City of Plano provided volunteer vests, plastic bags, gloves, and grabbers. The students were enthusiastic about their participation and following the work, they enjoyed a pizza party and making use of the playground equipment.
Willow Bend Academy has, since its beginning, provided opportunities for students to give back to the community through service projects such as this one, annual provision of Christmas gifts to needy children, feeding homeless people, providing needed supplies to a shelter for runaway and homeless teens, and visiting elderly residents of a nearby nursing home.
We believe that good citizenship includes thinking of others on both a personal level and to the community at large.
A big “thank you” to the students from the school, the neighborhood and the City of Plano.
