The Plano campus chapter of National Honor Society undertakes a community service project each semester. The project for the spring 2015 semester was preparation of Valentine goodie bags for patients at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas. Members wanted to do something that would put a smile on these patients’ faces and give them a surprise treat.
The National Honor Society members provided the leadership and supplies for making hand crafted Valentine cards. Students adorned their cards with stickers, glitter, ribbon, and washi tape to create their best artwork. Each student’s individual creativity was showcased by their colorful creations. The Honor Society members enlisted the student body to donate stuffed toys as well.
Each goodie bag contained two of the hand crafted Valentine cards and a stuffed toy which were delivered to the hospital on Thursday, February 12th by National Honor Society members.
The Texas Scottish Rite Hospital was established in 1921 and has treated over 235,000 children since opening the doors. The hospital, open to children from birth to 18 years of age, specializes in the treatment of pediatric orthopedic conditions, as well as related neurological disorders and learning differences.
The goodie bags were well received and brought smiles to the faces of the patients. The activity also bought smiles to the student body of Willow Bend Academy who enjoyed participating in community service.
