In support of parents and students who wish to undertake a home school education, Willow Bend offers a program of support which lends both credibility and accountability to this endeavor.
Diagnostic Placement
Nothing is more frustrating to a student than to be lock-stepped into a curriculum with his classmates when he or she may be academically ahead of or behind the material that is being taught. Frustration with this environment is often the driving force behind a student opting to pursue a home school education.
Students who enter Willow Bend’s home school program are placed in the curriculum at the level where they can best function. This means that talented students often work ahead of their chronological grade level and often complete more than the minimum number of credits. This also means that the student who has some learning differences can be placed so that frustration is minimized and he or she can often regain self-confidence and renew his or her lost love of learning.
Individualized Curriculum
The major responsibility for learning is placed on the student, and the curriculum is specifically designed to encourage student success. Each student’s program of study is individually tailored according to the student's goals, skills and abilities.
Accountability
In order to maintain accountability, all exams are administered and graded by the faculty of Willow Bend Academy. Students enrolled in the home school program are required to physically come to the school to complete all exams. All academic records are maintained by the staff of Willow Bend Academy.
Mastery Learning
Students not only work from an individualized starting point, they master each concept before moving on to the next step. Their rate of progress is set by their own rate of mastery of the subject.
Tutorial Program
Students who enroll in the home school program may receive two hours of on-site, individual tutorial assistance each month if needed. Students may receive additional tutorial assistance at a nominal rate.
Affordable Cost
The cost of home schooling through Willow Bend Academy is very affordable. The registration fee, diagnostic fee, and tuition is within reach of any parent desiring to educate their children at home.
